How fart noises and silly faces exposed CNBC
Back in 2005, the host of a “phony news” show on Comedy Central was named the most trusted TV anchor. Comedian Jon Stewart responded by invoking the Groucho Marx line that he’d never belong to any club that would have him as a member.
Stewart’s stature has rankled TV’s shouting heads, money honeys, and Ken-and-Barbies ever since. They blame the audience for abandoning the news for the likes of a fake anchorman who “makes fart noises and silly faces.”
Stewart keeps exposing the real fools. He did it to CNN and Crossfire co-host Tucker Carlson in 2006.
Last night on The Daily Show, he exposed the CNBC financial network and antic Mad Money guru Jim Cramer as fools who gamed everyone by knowingly promoting Wall Street’s lies. Confronted with his lies, Cramer looked as if he was about to wet himself. In an act of contrition, he nearly apologized for professional misconduct.
We need Jon Stewart, even if it takes fart noises and silly faces to embarrass TV’s financial journos into reporting the real news.
