The Big Picture: A good idea gets around

Whose photo is it? Boston.com runs a Getty Images picture from the Beijing Olympics on its The Big Picture. Pass it on.

Update: WSJ’s photo blog, which went hiding following the flap, has been renamed Photo Journal and can be found with difficulty. Director of Photography Jack Van Antwerp Director of Photography offered an explanation, a nod, but not an apology.

“We are excited by the attention our new “Photo Journal” has attracted from readers all over the world. In developing this feature, we were inspired by what others have done before us, particularly at http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/.”

Previous: Who hasn’t loved Boston.com’s Big Picture, Alan Taylor’s photo blog of really big pictures.

We’ve got no problem ripping off a good idea then making it your own with a little originality or creativity. But it seems like The Wall Street Journal forgot the original and creative parts. Media News blogger Dan Kennedy discloses how The Journal didn’t exactly flatter by imitation. The Journal has taken down its copy-cat version, but you can find the original in the Google cache.

You’ll have to excuse Rupert’s Journal. Not much experience with photos.
