The We Media Global Forum to Bring We Media Leaders to London

Reston, VA – Some of the world’s most interesting minds will meet in London on May 3-4 for discussions and collaborations on how media can help foster trust and impact on the most pressing global issues.

Online registration is now open for the We Media Global Forum at www.mediacenter.org/wemedia06/

The We Media Global Forum will be held at the BBC Television Centre in West London and Reuters global headquarters in Canary Wharf. The Media Center, the media-technology-society think tank based in Virginia, USA, will conduct the event in association with the BBC and Reuters.

BBC Director General Mark Thompson and Reuters CEO Tom Glocer will attend and participate in the forum.

The Global Forum brings together world leaders, leading news organizations, forefront thinkers, investors, executives and everyday citizens to a movement connecting people everywhere. Participation in the two-day event is open to the public. It is intended for organizations and individuals who are using digital media as a collective force of unprecedented power.

Hosts BBC and Reuters will conduct joint reporting and research for the Global Forum, bringing unprecedented live-reporting segments to an event that engages the public and citizen journalists. Some sessions will be multi-cast on an array of media platforms. Additionally, the World Caf?© – a global “town hall” meeting – will provide an arena for citizens around the world to engage in discussions about participatory media and journalism which will be multi-cast by the BBC.

The London forum is the second We Media event conducted by The Media Center. More than 250 leaders participated in the sold-out initial event in New York City in October 2005, including former U.S. Vice President and Current TV founder Al Gore, craigslist founder Craig Newmark, Associated Press CEO Tom Curley, Gawker Editor Jessica Coen and Google Video Director Jennifer Feikin, as well as news executives from the BBC, CBS and Yahoo!

The Media Center forecast the We Media phenomenon in the mid-1990s, and documented its impact in a prescient 2002 report. The BBC and Reuters are world leaders in applying “We Media” in their news operations.
